Who we support

We grow native plants to support the Marin chapter of the California Native Plant Society.

Home Ground supplies roughly 50% of plants sold at two annual fund-raising sales. We also provide educational materials, like plant profile cards, that outline the benefits and requirements of each plant. Our handouts cover topics like habitat-specific plant lists, managing common garden issues, and tips for healthier plant growth.

We package and sell seeds of local California native plants.

Our volunteers collect, clean, and package Home Ground Habitats seeds. Many of them also grow these plants in their own gardens! You can find these seeds at the Marin chapter plant sales and CNL Nursery on Shoreline Highway.

We grow native plants for restoration projects and, in partnership with Marin CNPS, we support various restoration projects around the Bay Area.

We provided plants for Marin Audubon Society restoration sites in Marin County, including coyote brush for the Simmon’s Slough site and narrow-leaf milkweed for Deer Island.

We grew California native plants for the all-native pollinator garden in front of the Bay Model in Sausalito. This garden received a Sausalito Beautiful award in 2019 and was featured in Flora magazine.

Home Ground donated plants to the Sonoma County Riverkeeper’s Project and enhanced habitat at Green String Farm in Petaluma.

We grow plants for some of the Novato Streetscape Committee projects.

Novato takes a proactive approach in this area. A dedicated team of volunteers collaborates with the city to identify individuals or businesses interested in adopting traffic islands or medians for planting purposes. With assistance from city staff, these volunteers handle the planning, installation, and upkeep of these landscapes, which now feature drought-tolerant native plants and contribute to the restoration of habitat corridors.

We donate plants to other non-profits who raise money through plant sales to support their charitable work.

Over the years, we have donated plants to In-Spirit in San Geronimo Valley, an organization that aids homebound individuals affected by serious injury or illness. We also have supported the Inverness Garden Club’s annual fund-raising event by contributing plants. The funds raised by the garden club are used to grant scholarships to deserving local students.

Working in partnership with Marin CNPS and SPAWN, we provide habitat plants and educational support for school gardens.

Teachers and school garden coordinators can reach out to us for information on available plants. Our aim is to offer resources that enable the expansion of school gardens to include pollinator habitats and wildlife resources. These gardens serve as outdoor classrooms, where students can engage with soil, plants, and diverse creatures, fostering inspiration and enjoyment.
