Gumplant: A Bright Native Winter Bloomer
Gumplant is a hardy California native known for its vibrant yellow flowers and remarkable resilience. Commonly found along the coast and in open grasslands, this adaptable shrub thrives in tough conditions where many other plants struggle.
Gumplant typically blooms from late summer into winter, providing a valuable source of nectar for pollinators during a time when few other plants are in flower. Its daisy-like blossoms are coated with a sticky resin—giving the plant its name—and attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

Reaching about 2 to 4 feet in height, Gumplant tolerates poor soils, wind, and drought once established. It performs best in full sun and requires minimal maintenance, making it an excellent choice for low-water gardens, coastal plantings, and habitat restoration projects.
With its long bloom season and ecological value, Gumplant adds both color and function to California native landscapes, especially during the cooler months when seasonal interest is often limited.
